Alfred has over 20 years of experience in journalism, organizing, communications, storytelling, and development in news media, political campaigns, tribal government, philanthropy and nonprofit sectors. Throughout it all, Alfred’s worldview has been formed along lines of race, gender, class, and political awareness, by necessity.

At Tending the Soil, Alfred has been able to actively pursue opportunities for funders to deepen their relationship with and expertise on the intersections of Black and Brown working class people, immigrants, and tenants in Minnesota. Facilitating work between philanthropy and Black and Brown-led organizations that are advocating and organizing for rights and policy wins is a privilege that not many are fortunate to have.

They grew up as a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota and identifies as a Two-Spirit, queer, Indigenous person of faith in recovery. In his free time, Alfred pursues his creative pursuits by beading, writing, designing and volunteering for other organizations in the Twin Cities metro.
